Okay, update time!

First I improved the nurglings a little bit and took some better pictures:

I tried a zombie colour scheme and came up with this:

What do you guys think? Most people paint their zombies grey, but I think the yellowish skin looks very unhealthy and it fits with my daemons.

I don't have much time this month, but the next thing I want to do is get a beastmen colour scheme:

This was quite a big project. First I did saw the body in two, afterwards I filled the gaps with green stuff and sculpted some details on it. The miniature is full of detail so painting took a while.

Apocalyptic Cityfight: event coverage

Xhammer is the name of a great little club in Kontich (near Antwerp). We try to show ourselves at various wargaming events in Belgium.

Like last year, we played 40K apocalypse. But this time we covered all the table with some fantastic city terrain. This included huge buildings, a big bride, a whole factory and a defence laser. Thanks Wiz and Grimduck for their excellent work!

We gave our first demonstration of this set-up at Crisis 09. This is a big convention in Antwerp, organised by the Tin Soldiers of Antwerp (TSOA).

The game featured Imperial Guard and Dark Angels fighting against Necrons, Traitor guard and some Nurgle Chaos Space Marines.

To our surprise we got second place for our demonstration game! Considering all the other amazing tables, this is a great reward for us. Thanks TSOA for the great event!

Knights Of Bayard: Conquest 6

Last Saturday the Knights Of Bayard held a Warhammer Fantasy tournament: Conquest 6. I went there with my Bretonnians and played 3 1500 points battles over the course of the day.

This was my first tournament and it won't be my last! What a great day. The organisation was flawless, and the location and battlefield where also top class. I saw some beautifully painted and converted armies, see for yourselves in the pictures below. My bretonnians got a 18/20 for painting, not bad with such a high standard.

I played against 3 nice opponents and got a massacre loss, draw and massacre win. At the end of the day, this meant a 18/44 place, not bad for a first tournament :)

It has been a while since I had time to do some hobby stuff. But that will change soon!

I'm going to play in a fantasy tournament next week, so I need to paint/finish a few Bretonnians. Pictures this weekend.

There is a bunch of school work waiting for me in August. But after that it is time to paint some more 40K Dark Angels. I want to finish as many marines as possible for a big demonstration game in November.

In the meanwhile I'm playing 2 great but old games. I re-installed Diablo 2, it looks really old, but it's still fun to run around and to hack & slash! Actually, my skeletons are running around and doing all the hack & slash while I pick up the loot :). I Can't wait for Diablo 3!

Then there is also Magic the gathering. There is a new edition coming out and it looks good. The rules are made more smooth and they made a whole bunch of new cards. I have been playing some games with pre made decks while waiting on the release.

Finished! These rhino's have more mud and damage then my other vehicles. That's because they see much more front line action then artillery vehicles.

I have assembled 3 rhino's for my dark angels.

This one is an old 2nd hand model with a bad paint job that destoyed some of the detail. I had to take it apart to clean it with file and sandpaper:

Review: Warhammer Online, Prelude to War (comic)

The collector's edition of the PC game "Warhammer Online" includes a nice comic. The game is already out for a while, I know. But only last week I found a chance to read the story. Right now you can buy the comic again through the Mythic Online Store (the publishers of the game.)

The comic (or graphic novel) is written by Graham McNeill, a well known author from Black Library, publisher of all things Games Workshop.

The meaning of the novel is to explain the events that happen before the story of the PC game. There are 6 different chapters, all in chronological order. Each part belongs to a different playable race from the game. These are Chaos, Dark Elves, Orcs & Goblins, Dwarfs, Humans and High Elves.

The main story is quite cliché: the evil armies gather to overthrow the world, while the only chance for the good guys is to form an alliance of order. We all heard this story before, but it is fitting for the warhammer universe (big armies gather there all the time). In the 6 chapters we see the different motives that belong the main races.

The drawing style of each of the 6 stories is totally different. The reason is that these are all drawn and coloured by different people. But each different style really fits the corresponding race. Personly I really liked the drawings of the Chaos, Dwarf and Elf stories. On the other hand, I thought that the Style of the Orc story was rubbish. Not detailed enough and pieces with missing parts. The drawings from the Empire story was OK, but the colouring was way to dark. I know they want to create a desperate atmosphere, but most of the images had to many black areas.

The 6 stories are all quite short, and for most part they give action scenes. This also includes sounds like "KBLAM", "ZZZT" and "THOOM". In my opinion there was a bit to much action, but it is all quite fitting in the WARhammer universe. The stories of the Dwarves and High Elves where more relaxed and pleasant to read, because the focus wasn't so much on fighting.

Conclusion: I was pleasantly surprised by the novel. The atmosphere is really good, but the story is not really ground-breaking. The drawing style is really nice (better than all the Warhammer comics I previously saw). While reading the comic I really felt the urge to start playing Warhammer Online again!

Recommended for all who likes warhammer or over the top fantasy. Not recommended if you want a long or well-thought story.

Tactical Squad from Assault on Black Reach

I have finished the Tactical marines from the Assault on Black Reach box. They are more detailed than the marines from the old starter set (Battle for Maccragge), but still, their poses are quite boring. The biggest problem however, is that the tactical markings on their shoulder pads are not correct for dark angels, so I had to scrape those all off.

Also I finished the crashed pilot/scientist model, I'll call him "Dr. Zoatberg" :)

The defence of LV-426: event coverage

Each year the club Xhammer strives to organise a cool demonstration game. We then show it at various Belgian wargames conventions.

This year we organised a large Warhammer 40K Apocalypse Battle. It features the attack of a Tyranid swarm on a doomed city from LV-426.

The impressive Tyranid army is played by wiz, while the city is defended by the space wolves of Grimduck and my dark angels (Shadowhunter).

A long line of trenches separates the city from the wasteland. Wiz and Grimduck made the cool terrain that features huge buildings, a lot of ruins and very realistic trenches.

Its a really great battle, drenched with a feeling of doom while the defenders try to hold back the numberless Tyranids. We used some objectives and special rules to balance the 2 forces.

You can see some images of this game in action (look for the grey 40K city, marines and big green nasty Tyranids), together with pictures from the other great tables and miniatures.

This is a dwarf army I painted a while ago. All the miniatures are from the Battle for Skull Pass set (about 500 points worth). They where really fun to paint and where sold on ebay afterwards.

40K scenery: bunkers

Hi!

To play 40K you need as much terrain as possible. That's why I thought of a fast and easy way to make bunkers!

To make something like this, start with a plastic box used as packaging for fruits and vegtables in the supermarket (at our store it's a box with mushrooms):

Cut some holes in it to serve as doors and windows. Then make them stand out with strips of cardboard. Glue them on with superglue. I also made a roof and a small hatch.

Get some texture spray from the DIY shop, I used 'granite texture' from 'Brico'. Spray the in- and outside of the bunker. I used 2 coats with 24h between them.

After some touch ups with grey and black paint, you'll get this:

Bretonnian trebuchet

The first (and only) miniatures that I painted this year!

It was really fun and fast to paint. The foundation washes are excellent for the brown clothes of the peasants. The warmachine is really hard to put together. My advise: make sure everything fits before you glue pieces together!

It did really well in my last battle, destroying a black coach thanks to a good hit!

Hello,

I have been playing warhammer and 40K for about 6 years now. I love the game and also the modelling and painting aspect. I have a bunch of painted models, but also loads of unpainted ones sitting on my desk.

There have been 2 very basis websites with galleries of my models, but they are quite hard to maintain. This blogging site on the other hand looks very handy, but I'm not sure how good it will be as a gallery/article site.

The idea is to make a few different sections: general, galleries, articles and reports.

Unfortunatly I don't have that much time, so it will be limited to older pictures until I find more time to paint.
